Jim Dekker – Mechanic/Progression Designer

Introduction

Hi! I’m Jim, a Game Design student at HKU Utrecht, an avid climber, and a passionate gamer!
All my life, I’ve been creating experiences for others—through games and art. I’m fascinated by how games, simulations, and art can leave a lasting impression on players (Impact).

Interests

My main interests lie in discovery, game feel, lore, player flow-state, and design that focuses on emotionally or strategically engaging experiences.
I focus on designing compelling core gameplay loops, innovative movement systems, engaging progression systems, satisfying game feel and polish, and mechanics that invite players into a state of flow. I enjoy working in a team environment.

Goals

I aim to grow into a designer who can create energetic mechanics and deep progression systems, with a strong focus on game feel and conveying emotion or meaning.

Genres I’m interested in: (MMO) RPGs, rhythm games, management games, unique platformers, simulation games, cozy games, and story-driven games.
